When I started this tumblr up, the concept of “Explain Chuck Asay’s cartoons, but as if he was a communist” seemed like it’d work well; I got a real good run on it. But recently it’s been harder to do so, because y’know, ultimately Chuck Asay isn’t a communist and there’s no communist interpretation of “fuck the blacks” or “aren’t gays odd?”. And it’s not that those aren’t things we should criticise but at the same time, having a tumblr to basically reblog his cartoons and say “they’re bad!” doesn’t seem worthwhile. If that should happen anywhere it should be in letters to his editors or comments on his Cagle page. So we had a good but short run, but this tumblr is now on “indefinite hiatus”.
HOWEVER it’s not like I’m going to stop reading his cartoons, or he’s going to stop having stupid opinions on the economy. So if I come across one worthy I’ll post it on my personal tumblr (culturalmarxist); I’ll also tag them, so you can track #chuck asay explained (or #chuck asay/#political cartoons) if you’d like to see that kinda stuff but don’t want to follow me (dicks). Ofc I don’t own a tag so feel free to do the same thing, and collectively we can kick Asay’s ass.
e: Oh yeah, and if people DO just want to reblog cartoons and say they’re shit—I mean it’s better than having to read all the cartoons of multiple political cartoonists—wtfpoliticalcartoons is a fine tumblr of good upstanding.
additional note: agoodcartoon is a similar tumblr but focusing on a wider range of cartoonists

Chuck Asay has such a boring week I can’t even be bothered to do it cartoon-by-cartoon. Here’s the breakdown:
If I could think of one thing that has dominated the news for the past month, it is just how little women care about abortion and family planning centers.
Chuck Asay prays that Romney doesn’t win the primary; he only has two faces for Obama and both of them look like Mitt.
Faced with making only $38 billion profits a year once subsidaries are taken away, the oil industry has no choice but to raise gasoline prices to similar levels to such third-world countries like ‘Europe,’ all of which is Obama’s fault.
Having absolved the US of its public debts Obama realises with horror that he can longer rely on “austerity” to implement neo-liberal reforms.

Sure, but if wilfully misinterpreting poorly-conceived symbolism is off the table then this blog’s really got nothing else working for it.
The most sensitive thing I can say is to google ‘colorado school campus shootings’ and see how well Asay’s plan works out.
